Eden's Garden

This is my little tater-tot, Eden, born in April 2008. And, yes. She has a bucket on her head. It's one of the many things that she finds humorous these days. Silly girl. She sings, she chatters, she loves playing peek-a-boo, she talks to her books, and she giggles at the most random of moments.

It has been an amazing adventure with her so far, and also somewhat difficult. You wouldn't know by looking at her or maybe even meeting her in person, but she is faced with several challenges. She has been diagnosed with low muscle strength and Duane Syndrome. The low muscle strength has effected her motor skills and she is a bit behind. The Duane Syndrome affects the eye muscles and causes an inability to move her eyes laterally (to the corner of the eye).  It has mainly affected her right eye.

Her young life has already seen a CT scan and an MRI, and we have met with a pediatric neurologist, a pediatric opthamologist, and an occupational therapist, to name a few.  She currently has weekly sessions with a physical therapist and water therapist. We are working very hard to get her crawling, standing and walking! She is on her way.

This blog is mainly for me to track her progress. Sometimes things can be a little discouraging and I have found it helpful to keep pictures and make notes of where she WAS and how far she has grown.

Welcome to Eden's Garden!

When I was a little girl and it was COLD outside, I used to love putting on the winter get-up and sitting by our wall heater. I'm not sure why I enjoyed it so much. Playing dress up and keeping warm, I guess.

With Eden already in her winter PJs, I couldn't resist adding a hat.

Wild and Crazy..that's what I like to call it.

And I'm not cutting it. EVER. It almost has a mind of it's own.

It's a good look for her, don't you think?

Like father, like daughter, I suppose.

Sometimes I love Eden's physical therapy/occupational therapy sessions. They introduce her to some fun stuff. Stuff like finger painting!

She's picky about gooey things. It was a little weird at first.

Then she got into it a bit more. And don't worry, all you moms thinking, "Ahhh!! What a mess! It's all over her!" It came off very easily. I was veeeeery happy about that.

Well, the rash has left. It wasn't itchy or irritating to Eden. I'm pretty sure she didn't even know it was there. Good.

The other day, I heard Eden jabbering after a nap. I went into her bedroom and found her flipped over onto her belly and playing happily.

Within the past couple of months, Eden has mastered rolling over from her back to her tummy. We are very excited for this little (more like HUGE) accomplishment! She is becoming more mobile! She would typically roll over to her tummy when sleeping, but not so much when she was awake. These days, I can place a toy out of reach and she will roll over to get it! Progress progress progress...

Love that smile. It melts me.
