Eden's Garden

This is my little tater-tot, Eden, born in April 2008. And, yes. She has a bucket on her head. It's one of the many things that she finds humorous these days. Silly girl. She sings, she chatters, she loves playing peek-a-boo, she talks to her books, and she giggles at the most random of moments.

It has been an amazing adventure with her so far, and also somewhat difficult. You wouldn't know by looking at her or maybe even meeting her in person, but she is faced with several challenges. She has been diagnosed with low muscle strength and Duane Syndrome. The low muscle strength has effected her motor skills and she is a bit behind. The Duane Syndrome affects the eye muscles and causes an inability to move her eyes laterally (to the corner of the eye).  It has mainly affected her right eye.

Her young life has already seen a CT scan and an MRI, and we have met with a pediatric neurologist, a pediatric opthamologist, and an occupational therapist, to name a few.  She currently has weekly sessions with a physical therapist and water therapist. We are working very hard to get her crawling, standing and walking! She is on her way.

This blog is mainly for me to track her progress. Sometimes things can be a little discouraging and I have found it helpful to keep pictures and make notes of where she WAS and how far she has grown.

Welcome to Eden's Garden!

I like to call it: The Forehead Game.

I don't quite understand the rules of the game. All I know is, you put your foreheads together and shake your head back and forth. It looks like, during this round, Eden was pulling a move called, Bite Grandma's Nose. 500 points for Eden!

We're still working big-time on the crawling thing. It's coming along...coming along.

She'll get there.

Eden and I had a picnic out in our yard. It was quite pleasant, if I do say so myself.

(the following pics were taken with my cell phone, ya'll, but they're still cute!)

We laughed..

We sang songs...

We acted out scenes from the God Father.....maybe?

We pointed at things and had crumbs in our mouths...

We had staring contests...

and we smiled....a lot.

I love picnics.

I know it's a little blurry. And I wish it wasn't. But I love it anyways.

Ladies and Gentlemen:

I give you.....Clapping!

I know I mentioned it before, but here's the proof! She finally mastered clapping. She claps all the time..and it's not just tiny little baby claps. We're talking loud-smacking the hands together-claps! The other day I put her down in her crib for a nap, she looked up at me and started clapping. I figured maybe she was excited about going to bed...you think?

Last, but not least....

A KISS! I call it a KISSish. Cuz, it's sort-of a kiss, and sort-of not. But, it's close enough for me. Right back at ya, babe!
