This is my little tater-tot, Eden, born in April 2008. And, yes. She has a bucket on her head. It's one of the many things that she finds humorous these days. Silly girl. She sings, she chatters, she loves playing peek-a-boo, she talks to her books, and she giggles at the most random of moments.
It has been an amazing adventure with her so far, and also somewhat difficult. You wouldn't know by looking at her or maybe even meeting her in person, but she is faced with several challenges. She has been diagnosed with low muscle strength and Duane Syndrome. The low muscle strength has effected her motor skills and she is a bit behind. The Duane Syndrome affects the eye muscles and causes an inability to move her eyes laterally (to the corner of the eye). It has mainly affected her right eye.
Her young life has already seen a CT scan and an MRI, and we have met with a pediatric neurologist, a pediatric opthamologist, and an occupational therapist, to name a few. She currently has weekly sessions with a physical therapist and water therapist. We are working very hard to get her crawling, standing and walking! She is on her way. This blog is mainly for me to track her progress. Sometimes things can be a little discouraging and I have found it helpful to keep pictures and make notes of where she WAS and how far she has grown. Welcome to Eden's Garden!

I wish you could HEAR this picture. She was singing, loud and proud....just for me. I don't know what song it was, but it was a good one. She's got some pipes on her, that one! |

This is Eden's grandma a.k.a. my mother-in-law a.k.a. the rockstar's mama. She and Eden are good pals. She watches Eden on the few days during the week when I work.
I wish I could hang out with Eden every day all day.
But I know she's in safe and loving and silly hands when she's with good old grams and gramps. |

It has been a while since I've updated on Eden's progress. Many things are improving as she grows stronger. Her greatest accomplishments in the last couple weeks may seem small to you, but they are HUGE to us! -While in the sitting position, she can put her weight on one arm and cross over with the other arm to reach for a toy! Hooray! -Just yesterday, she mastered clapping. Usually she does, what I like to call, the "air clap". She moves her hands as if she were clapping, but her hands never touch. NOW, she claps her hands together! And she finds it very amusing. Finally! -She's getting better and better at feeding herself AND using a sippy cup. Hooray for progress! |

It was 80 degrees yesterday!! I almost cried in happiness. We decided to turn off the furnace and it's not going back on.. Do you hear me, WINTER??? We're not turning the heat back on! Now that we have deliciously green and plush grass (thanks to our new sprinklers), and it was way too hot in the house, we decided to sit outside and watch the sun go down. Eden has finally mastered the art of sitting up. She's been able to do this since the end of January and she's gotten better and better at it, so we decided to see what she would think of sitting in the grass.
I love all her rolls, don't you? It looks like she has two elbows! I'll be sure to get this photo out when she brings her first boyfriend home.
I call this pose, The Praying Mantis.
Oh, stop..please stop! My heart can't take it! I might faint from pure bliss.
This one is my favorite. I think I'm in love. |
