This is my little tater-tot, Eden, born in April 2008. And, yes. She has a bucket on her head. It's one of the many things that she finds humorous these days. Silly girl. She sings, she chatters, she loves playing peek-a-boo, she talks to her books, and she giggles at the most random of moments.
It has been an amazing adventure with her so far, and also somewhat difficult. You wouldn't know by looking at her or maybe even meeting her in person, but she is faced with several challenges. She has been diagnosed with low muscle strength and Duane Syndrome. The low muscle strength has effected her motor skills and she is a bit behind. The Duane Syndrome affects the eye muscles and causes an inability to move her eyes laterally (to the corner of the eye). It has mainly affected her right eye.
Her young life has already seen a CT scan and an MRI, and we have met with a pediatric neurologist, a pediatric opthamologist, and an occupational therapist, to name a few. She currently has weekly sessions with a physical therapist and water therapist. We are working very hard to get her crawling, standing and walking! She is on her way. This blog is mainly for me to track her progress. Sometimes things can be a little discouraging and I have found it helpful to keep pictures and make notes of where she WAS and how far she has grown. Welcome to Eden's Garden!

We decided to make the trip to Oregon for Great Grandma's memorial service. It was a seven hour drive. With a one year old. Did I mention it was seven hours long?? I didn't really know what to expect from Eden during the loooooong trip. We've never taken a drive that long, or even a TRIP since she's been born. So, I packed enough snacks to feed an army and HOPEFULLY keep her happy.
It was the first time we faced her car seat forward. We decided she seems strong enough and BIG enough to do so. And seven hours of not being able to see your parents could get a little rough. Things started out great.
We listened to lots of music and she shook the rattle to the beat (well, not perfectly to the beat, but she's pretty good. That is, when's she's not trying to EAT the rattle).
To our surprise, she LOVED riding in the car with us...even if it was for seven hours. (Don't worry, there were plenty of stops, and stretching, and diaper changes, and eating french fries from Dairy Queen). Most of the journey was filled with her cracking up.
PLENTY of naps.
And when things get a little boring and no one is talking...why not read a book?? SUCCESS! |

Books, books, and more books! Eden can't get enough. I've never seen a child who likes looking at books as much as she does. She TALKS to the pictures. She gets her face as CLOSE to the pages as possible (so she doesn't miss anything? to get a closer look??). Sometimes I'll hold the book and sometimes she wants to hold it. One of her favorite books these days is Your Personal Penguin. She got it from her Aunt Carrie. The great thing about this book is that you are supposed to SING all the words. I love SINGING the story. Trust me, it gets silly around here. Today, she wanted to read it, hold it, look at it, lick it, throw it....all by herself.

Sometimes the hand can be distracting.

Hang on to the pacifier in case there are scary parts.
Close...
Closer...
Even closer...
"I want to be your personal penguin, frooooommm noooooow ooooooon!" |

Happy Birthday Eden!! Her official 1st birthday was yesterday, April 24th, but we celebrated today with family and friends. Eden has two little friends, Emily and Daphne, who practically share the same birthday, so we all celebrated together. A TRIO birthday bash. Party hats and all. Cakes and all. SUGAR and all.
E for Eden, E for Emily, and D for Daphne. Yes, they each had their own 9 X 13 inch cake and a little candle. That's a whole heck of a lot of sugar. Woh.

Eden didn't seem to mind the hat. Maybe she knew it was her birthday. You HAVE TO wear a party hat on your birthday! And then there was cake. Chocolate cake.
The thing about chocolate, it makes you laugh one second....
...and makes you cry the next. Literally..within seconds.
The presents were plenty. But the most exciting part was the wrapping and ribbons and tissue paper. Of course.
After the sugar high wore off, sleepiness came like a freight train. I believe she was thinking, "Stick a fork in me, I'm done." I believe I was thinking, "Thank goodness birthdays only come once a year." Happy 1st birthday, little love! |

I don't think I had the opportunity of meeting any of my great grandparents. Eden has. Lucky girl. When you've got four generations in the room, somebody has to take some pictures.
This is Great Grandpa Moore. OR, Tim's mom's dad. He's 94 years young. I say young because this picture was taken this past Easter...well..that's not why I said YOUNG, but keep reading. He and his wife of 69 years (if that ain't love, I don't know what is) drove over from Oregon. Yea, he still drives. He also has a cell phone AND knows how to use it. He ALSO has a digital camera AND knows how to use that too! He even emails. And to top it off, last Christmas he made a snowman on my in-laws front yard...but, now I'm just bragging.
He's met Eden before, but she was really little and didn't do much. This time around, she talked to him and he talked to her. He probably got drooled on too. No, wait. I KNOW he got drooled on. He didn't mind. They had a great time together. Thus, GREAT grandpa. Heh.
Eden enjoyed herself as well. Who wouldn't enjoy spending time with Great Grandpa Moore? He has the best stories. And even if I've heard the story before, it never gets old.
This is Great Grandma Moore. She loved talking to Eden. She sang songs, she told stories and little nursery rhymes. Eden was captivated by Great Grandma.
They sat together for a long while.
I don't know who liked the other more. |
