This is my little tater-tot, Eden, born in April 2008. And, yes. She has a bucket on her head. It's one of the many things that she finds humorous these days. Silly girl. She sings, she chatters, she loves playing peek-a-boo, she talks to her books, and she giggles at the most random of moments.
It has been an amazing adventure with her so far, and also somewhat difficult. You wouldn't know by looking at her or maybe even meeting her in person, but she is faced with several challenges. She has been diagnosed with low muscle strength and Duane Syndrome. The low muscle strength has effected her motor skills and she is a bit behind. The Duane Syndrome affects the eye muscles and causes an inability to move her eyes laterally (to the corner of the eye). It has mainly affected her right eye.
Her young life has already seen a CT scan and an MRI, and we have met with a pediatric neurologist, a pediatric opthamologist, and an occupational therapist, to name a few. She currently has weekly sessions with a physical therapist and water therapist. We are working very hard to get her crawling, standing and walking! She is on her way. This blog is mainly for me to track her progress. Sometimes things can be a little discouraging and I have found it helpful to keep pictures and make notes of where she WAS and how far she has grown. Welcome to Eden's Garden!

Well, I was in such a hurry to get to Eden's water therapy on time that I forgot the camera. But, if you scroll down a couple entries to the one about water therapy, it pretty much looked like that. EXCEPT, she was a little cranky today. I don't know if she was hungry or tired, but she was definitely not in the mood for a long workout. Her therapist DID let us know that she seemed a lot stronger this week than she was last week. Which means....she's getting stronger!! That was an obvious statement, I know, but really really good to hear. Aside from all the therapy, I do try to play with Eden as much as possible. The other day, we were jumping on the bed (ok, I was pretty much doing all the jumping) and Eden found it quite hilarious. She would laugh, which would make ME laugh, which would then make HER laugh. It was a big crack up fest. I'll admit, sometimes when I'm laughing with her, I get a little exaggerated. The crazier I get, the harder it makes her laugh. Let's just say, I get pretty crazy.
p.s. Look at those arm muscles!! Haha. Cutie Patootie. |

Three teeth. Only on the bottom. What's up with that?? I keep jamming my finger in her mouth to check for any signs of little chompers up top. Nothing. So, she has become my little Piranha. She loves to show them off. Aren't they cute?? And even without any teeth on top, she still has a fierce bite. Look out!
p.s. I love it when she smiles. Stick a fork in me-I'm done. |

Well, I think it's almost Spring...maybe...hopefully.....PLEASE!! It hasn't snowed for a couple weeks. So, I'm crossing my fingers (and toes..their long enough that I probably COULD cross them if I tried. I know that's weird and potentially gross, but so are feet). ANYWAYS... I decided to post a picture of Eden in her very first snowsuit. Nice and cozy and cute. Unfortunately, she probably won't wear it again. She's growing like a weed. On a side note, have you ever seen the movie, A Christmas Story? Remember Ralphie's brother, Randy? He had that really big, bulky, ridiculous, RED snowsuit...and would cry, "I can't put my arms down!!" That still makes me laugh out loud. I love that movie. Eden's snowsuit isn't THAT bad. Maybe I'll get her one like Randy had when she's older... Heheheh..hahahaha..mwuhahahaha... ehem.

Eden came face to face with a horse for the first time. Her grandparents (my in-laws) live on five acres and have two horses. We decided it was time to meet the rest of the family. SO we sat her on the edge of the fence, I made sure Copper didn't mistake her fingers for little tiny, tasty carrots, and watched the meeting unfold. It went something like this: Eden: Helloooo, pony. Copper: Hellooooo, little person. Eden stares Copper stares Staring More staring And...SCENE

Today is one of the discouraging days. I have them every once in a while. We got together with some good friends of ours last night. They all happen to have daughters about the same age as Eden (we didn't plan that). One is a couple days older and one is a couple days younger. Eden's right in the middle. I love these little girlies. They are so cute and silly and chatty, just like our Eden. The only difference (and it's a BIG difference) it that they are both pretty much walking. They crawl, they get in to things, they move around... That's when it gets discouraging for me, because, then I do the silly thing of COMPARING. Not a good idea. Every child is different..yes, yes. I know. But sometimes, I can't help myself. Why isn't she crawling? Why is her trunk/core so weak? Did I not give her enough tummy time when she was a tiny baby? Is everything ALRIGHT? Will she ever crawl?? I digress. But then..she laughs, or claps, or smiles at me for no reason. And usually that makes it all better. She is loved and I'm pretty sure she knows it. So, I take a breath and remember the progress she has made. She'll get there...she'll get there.
