This is my little tater-tot, Eden, born in April 2008. And, yes. She has a bucket on her head. It's one of the many things that she finds humorous these days. Silly girl. She sings, she chatters, she loves playing peek-a-boo, she talks to her books, and she giggles at the most random of moments.
It has been an amazing adventure with her so far, and also somewhat difficult. You wouldn't know by looking at her or maybe even meeting her in person, but she is faced with several challenges. She has been diagnosed with low muscle strength and Duane Syndrome. The low muscle strength has effected her motor skills and she is a bit behind. The Duane Syndrome affects the eye muscles and causes an inability to move her eyes laterally (to the corner of the eye). It has mainly affected her right eye.
Her young life has already seen a CT scan and an MRI, and we have met with a pediatric neurologist, a pediatric opthamologist, and an occupational therapist, to name a few. She currently has weekly sessions with a physical therapist and water therapist. We are working very hard to get her crawling, standing and walking! She is on her way. This blog is mainly for me to track her progress. Sometimes things can be a little discouraging and I have found it helpful to keep pictures and make notes of where she WAS and how far she has grown. Welcome to Eden's Garden!

I love this picture. And, yes...I am shooting directly into the sunlight. It's a new favorite of mine. Pretty soon I may have to create a folder within my pictures titled, "Pictures taken directly in the sunlight." That's how much I enjoy it. Yes, yes -- I know that if I moved JUST a little to the right, you would be able to see their faces a little better. But, no...I wanted it like this on purpose. I love the beautiful silhouettes. And I find that I enjoy stepping outside the "standard picture taking" box. Makes an ordinary picture -- extraordinary. (Cheesy, I know). Try it sometime! |

These days... are filled with lots of laughter. it's so hot out, Eden sits outside in her diaper. we are waiting for results on the most recent genetic testing. we patch her right eye for a half an hour a day. there's still no crawling, but more standing. Eden learned a new word: TANTRUM. |

I love our pets. Buckley and Bandit. Bandit and Buckley. They DO certainly crave their fair share of attention. Here's what typically happens during a day of picture taking.
What's the big deal? Of all the places in my house, the cat just happened to want to walk across MY lap to get where she was going.
And look at Sneaky McSneakerson over there. He just happened to feel the need to come REAL close to see out the front window. He's so tall, he can see out the window from ANY spot in our living room. But, on this day, for SOME reason, he just needed to get closer. Hmmmm. |

That cute little guy in the red shirt is my little little bro. A.k.a - Eden's Uncle. He's almost 5 years old and rarely sits still. The other day, he was at our house, running around, chasing the dog, yelling (like little boys do), and then....there it was. SILENCE. I turned around to see him laying next to Eden and letting her pet his head. It think it lasted for at least 5 minutes (that's a long time for a 5 year old). How sweet. |
